Stud frame buildings, often called stick-built, use closely spaced vertical studs with structural sheathing to support the load of the roof and upper areas. This method offers flexibility for interior finishes, insulation, and window and door placement, and typically uses a continuous foundation. Post frame buildings use larger structural posts set into the ground or anchored to piers. These posts carry the roof load, allowing for wider spacing and open interior layouts. Post frame structures often use metal siding and roofing, do not require full sheathing, and do not always need a continuous foundation unless desired for premium builds or barndominiums. Each system has advantages depending on budget, use, and long-term goals.
